The first tropical depression of the young hurricane season has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico. It is likely to strengthen into tropical storm Alex on Friday. The tropical storm will move steadily northeast and across Florida on Saturday.
Torrential rain is expected across Central and South Florida Friday and Saturday. Parts of south Florida could receive six to ten inches of rain before the storm moves out into the Atlantic.
