(quaint music) – I am inside a simulator
now, with Captain Gabe. – Hi.
– So, we are ready to fly. I’m just learning some
of the preparation work. Momentarily, we will take off. – Here’s what we’re gonna do; I’ll show you all the controls now. And after a while, I’ll show you how to do the take off procedure. We’re going to take off from Dubai, do little bit of circuit, then I’ll set you for the landing. – Sure!
Absolutely. – Alright. So first, you have your fly by wire side stick on the left side.
– Okay, ah, this is the fly by
wire, the joystick of Airbus. – Exactly, correct.
– Cool. – So, that’s your main flight control. – Yep. – Now, simply to pull up,
you just pull it back. To bring the nose down, push it forward. Then, to roll left and right, as is. – Left and right. – Correct.
– Alright – Now on the bottom, you have
two pedals in front of you.
– Okay. – Okay, now you can
press them from the top, both together, those are the wheel brakes. – Ah, the wheel brakes. – Yes.
– I see. – Now, if you press it from the bottom with your heels separately…
– Yep – … left and right,
those are your rudders. – Rudders. – Yes, that’s used for
steering on the ground. – So, I just want to know exactly, what does the rudder do
on the part of the plane? – The rudder pedals; it
steers the rudder in the back, the tail of the plane.
It’s mainly used to yield
the plane left and right, and it’s used for steering on the ground when you’re set for the take off. – Okay, it’s for steering. – That’s right, yeah. Alright, we have the
same on the left side, it shows your air speed. – Okay.
– Okay, 40, 60. And the one on the right 00,
that’s your altitude or height. – Okay, now my altitude is here? – That’s right.
– It’s right at six zero, and my speed is here. – On the left side, correct.
– Right. – Now the one in the
middle, the blue and brown shows you the orientation of the plane, shows you the pitch angle. – Yep. – This dot here shows you
the nose of the plane. Now, obviously, blue is climb and brown shows you the ground, you’re going down, you’re descending. – Okay.
– Okay? On your other screen, that’s
your navigation display. That’s like your GPS. Yellow crosses the plane. The green line is the reset flight path. – Okay. – Alright, so once we take off, that’s what you have to follow around.
– So, guys, welcome onboard,
aboard Emirates A380. This is flight EK 380. I’m gonna take you from Dubai to Hong Kong International Airport
in just under seven hours. Momentarily, I’ll be taking off, and with me is the Senior
Check Captain Gabriel. And also, I have a beautiful
Senior Stewardess, Liz. – Hi guys! – Alright Liz, I’ll see you
back in the cabin later. – Alright, see ya Captain. – [Gabriel] Alright, we
are now set for takeoff. Now, before you do that, you wanna release the parking brakes, please. – [Pilot] Parking brake released. – [Gabriel] Extend flaps one. – [Pilot] Flaps one, set. – [Gabriel] You have control. – [Pilot] Okay. – [Gabriel] Clear for takeoff. – [Pilot] Increasing the power. – [Gabriel] Takeoff thrust, set. (engine accelerates) Airspeeds alive. – [Pilot] 60 knots. – [Gabriel] Okay. – [Pilot] 80 knots. (airflow bustling) – [Gabriel] B1.
– [Pilot] B1. – [Gabriel] Rotate.
– [Pilot] Rotate. – [Gabriel] Positive climb,
landing gear up, please. – [Pilot] Landing gear up! – [Gabriel] Thank you. – Now turning left, at 2,500 feet. We are making a left bank. – [Gabriel] Go further down,
please, pitch your nose down. Bring the nose down back to 15 degrees. – [Pilot] Oh my god. I think I was still (engine noise), right? Oh dear, rookie mistake.
Oh, the 380s are very
sensitive machines here. It’s very sensitive. – [Gabriel] Alright, give
it a little bit of turn, bank right, please. Level the wings. Bank right.
– Bank right, okay. So guys, we’re just descending
from our cruise level flight level 400, now
coming into Hong Kong. Now we’re coming down 370, and gradual descent into Hong Kong.
(engine noise) – [Gabriel] Please. – [Pilot] Reducing it now.
– [Gabriel] Let her down. That’s good. Put your nose down, start
to switch your nose down. So while you’re doing that,
set landing gear levels. – [Pilot] Landing gear down. – [Gabriel] Flip flaps.
– [Pilot] Flip flaps. – [Gabriel] Alright,
put your nose up a bit. – [Pilot] Put your nose up a bit, yep. – [Gabriel] Alright, yeah,
we’re moving 300 feet. – [Pilot] Yep. – [Gabriel] Put your nose up.
– [Pilot] Okay. – [Gabriel] Okay, can
you roll left, please? – [Pilot] Roll left. – [Gabriel] Further left. – [Pilot] Oh, it’s very
difficult, actually. – [Gabriel] Alright, pitch your nose up. – [Pilot] Pitch nose up. – [Gabriel} All the way,
all the way, further up. That’s enough.
– [Pilot] Yeah, yeah, yeah. – [Gabriel] Now turn right
(engine noise) turn right. – [Pilot] Turn right. – [Gabriel] Stop, nose down, please. – [Pilot] Nose down. – [Gabriel] Stop, alright,
power idle, all the way down.
– [Pilot] Alright.
– [Gabriel] Thank you. (landing thud) Touchdown, alright, you’re on the ground. – Oh my god! I landed so simply the first time. – [Gabriel] Press the brakes,
please, both the pedals. Slightly overshot the runway, but got to give it to you,
first landing, centre line. – I’m so glad; I made it first time. Welcome to Hong Kong, we have just landed. Guys, I had this amazing
experience on my first flight on the A380 as a captain. I really want you guys to come here in Dubai more to try out.
This experience is pretty surreal. It gives you an idea how
to power an aeroplane, how to steer an aeroplane
to come to land safely. Thank you for watching guys. (light rock music) Good news, guys, I’m giving
away two Emirates A380 experience session tickets to my viewers, so you guys can come
and fly A380 yourself! So simply click on the link in the description to enter the contest. Good luck, guys!.
