Hi there. Do you know that it might take 3 hours for you to get your first Invisalign trays fitted? Yes, you are hearing me right… 3 hours Today, let's talk about what happened on my tray fitting appointment so that you are aware of what you might experience. Basically, the main purpose of this appointment is to apply attachments on my teeth both from the inside and from the outside and also create some gaps between some certain teeth so that my teeth can start shifting. There were 6 steps that I went through. Step 1…Cleaning and polishing There's nothing really special to talk about in this step You'd probably experience the same thing in a dental check up. Especially when my orthodontist already performed a deep cleaning session a few weeks before this, so this step was rather quick. Step 2… To help the attachments stick, my teeth were treated with a sour liquid and I was told not to swallow that liquid Instead, my orthodontist rinsed my teeth afterwards.
Step 3: Apply attachments I have 28 attachments in total in my mouth. I have in the upper jaw, 12 from the outside and 5 from the inside And for the lower jaw, I have 10 from the outside and 1 from the inside. My orthodontist used a tiny brush to apply a bonding agent to help secure the attachments to my teeth. After that, she loaded composite into template aligners and place them over my teeth. As you can see here the orthodontist applied gentle pressure to keep aligners in place. Then, she used a special blue light to harden the attachments.
At this stage, to be honest, I felt discomfort on two teeth but it was bearable. Step 4 is also cleaning. The orthodontist removed the template aligners, and any extra bonding agents or composite from my mouth. Step 5: Teeth filing or so-called IPR I had 3 teeth on the lower jaw filed in total. My orthodontist started with a dental drill first then continued with an abrasive stripper to file my teeth And to be honest, it was not the most comfortable feeling in the world but it was not too bad.
Now we come to the end Step 6: Tray fitting Yayyy!!! So, basically, at this step, the orthodontist showed me how to put my trays in and how to take them out. However, I couldn't do it right and it took me several attempts to do so and every time I needed my orthodontist's help. So, honestly, I was picnicked going home, knowing that I might not able to take my trays out in the evening. However (luckily), it turned out okay after I got home. I am not gonna lie It was a long hard-working day for my orthodontist and also myself. You can imagine that after 3 hours of being stretched, my mouth was bleeding and my lip corners were chapped.
I am not sure if you can really see, but they are still purple now. But you know, all things are difficult before they are easy so, good luck with your tray fitting!.
