government sector is not focused on profits right it's as simple as that but they should be according to me tips on how to stack black money ah no tips then I don't have anything so you stack it like this like and one got D two get deep freezer so that is stacking black money units okay hi everyone welcome to this special Valentine's Day episode where my wife aishi and I are going to discuss not about our lives but about a very interesting topic which is the comparison or debate between government and private jobs we will speak from our own personal experiences I've been an ex Management Consultant I have worked with BCG dalberg top tier private jobs so to say and ayushi has worked in top tier government jobs interesting bit about this chat if you watch this entire video is that we have a son scene and I'm going to talk about whether I would want him to do private job slash government jobs and iuc will give her her own verdict on the same topic and our viewpoints are different so please stay tuned we will reveal the answer also interestingly I did a community post on the same topic Lord of you showed interest and we have picked some very interesting questions to discuss so let's kick start our conversation and over to ig if you can do a quick introduction and then we will jump into the topic hi everyone I'm ayushi I'm an Indian economic service officer and I've worked with the government for over eight years I graduated from srcc I did my economics honors from there and then my Master's in economics and I can give you an Insider view into various kinds of government jobs so with that Viewpoint in mind let us set very quick context as to what do we exactly mean by government jobs what is the ecosystem of government jobs we are looking at and what is the ecosystem of private jobs that currently exist so let's break apart that topic so over to you if you can explain the overview of government jobs so government jobs slash public sector jobs are very Broad in nature if I categorize into different sectors it could be in education sphere university colleges it could be defense it could be with Ministries it could be also with psus and Banks Within These factors there are group a b c d jobs group a are usually the most coveted ones and we these groups are basically defined on the basis of the level of competitiveness how difficult it is to get into a particular group for example group a would be is IPS in Revenue Service Indian economic service and group b c d would be similar in category but would be less difficult to get into all right so uh similar categorization can somewhat be built in the private sector job also while there is no set categorization here but let me help you understand by breaking it apart into gold standard silver standard and bronze standard jobs when it comes to Gold Standard jobs these are highly competitive very sought after if you graduate from Top tier Business Schools undergraduate programs then typically gold standard jobs would be something like Investment Banking management consulting vcpe firms these typically pay well and face a lot of competition then silver standard jobs would be for example Boutique consulting firms so these would be tier two consulting firms tr2 Investment Banking firms so on and so forth this can also be categorized in Tech so for example if you're looking at Google Amazon these typically depending on the role might be be categorized into gold standard jobs what are bronze standard jobs these are jobs that are paying less and less with time so I'll put a snippet here and you can see that when it comes to it related jobs these days the growth in salary for ID related jobs hasn't been very high so we will place that into bronze standard job so I hope the categorization is clear now and now we will contextualize our conversation for the remaining discussion to gold and silver standard jobs and set some context there so let's start discussing some attributes and the first key attribute that we are going to compare public and private jobs would be the money bit so if you can take us through how much money do group a service officers make versus Group B versus C versus D if you can give a quick comparison there so the salary structure in different government jobs is quite transparent group a jobs for example if you are a fresh entrant into group a jobs the enhanced salary that you would be getting would be somewhere around 60 to 70 000 per month over a span of 30 to 35 years if you reach the level of the highest post within a Ministry that is the secretary level at the age of retirement almost 60 years the inner salary you would be getting would be somewhere around 20 to 25 lakhs okay so help us understand that when you join the services when did you join it what was your salary how much is it now and how much would you potentially make when you are 60.

So when I joined the service that was back in 2016 that is when I cracked the exam I was getting an Indian salary of around 55 000 per month that is after a lot of deductions okay uh so that was the enhanced salary as I grow into the career right now I'm getting a salary of around the gross salary is around 14 lakhs and there are a lot of reductions again so maybe around 12 lakhs you could say that would be the enhanced salary if I continue in this service and go up to the age of 60 years the retirement age my salary would be somewhere around 20 to 22 lakhs I'm not accounting for the fact that as I continue into the service pay commission would be revising the salaries according to the inflation that is going on in the economy so that might of course increase a little bit more but right now the present salaries are is around 20 to 22 lakhs uh so okay so in terms of this salary difference between group a b c what would be the typical differences uh important Point here would be that people transfer from one group to the other when they write like certain internal exams yes that is possible but only in certain types of services not all Group B services for example can clear certain examinations and transfer into group a services so for example if you clear the state civil service exam you can and you are a state level IPS officer you can become a central level IPS officer by clearing certain examinations internal so now let me very quickly cover the amount of money that you would typically make if you are working in the private sector of course this is a very broad discussion so it might might not apply to you to people around you so I'll just speak in a general sense so if you're working in elite private jobs which are gold standard jobs you tend to typically make a lot of money just to give you an understanding so when I started working in Consulting right after my MBA I was making back in 2014 my salary would have been around 30 lakhs and at that time when I quit around two and a half years then my salary was close to 50 lakhs so this is significant salary right and this is the amount of salary you will typically make at any top tier consulting firm if you're working in an industry called as Investment Banking you will make 30 more money if you are working in Tech typically you'll make similar type if you are working with high-end startups or sought after startups you will make maybe even more money than this so highly depends but the money is fairly good just to give an understanding if you are starting your career with top tier consulting firms top tier Tech firms top tier Investment Banking firms then at the start right after your undergrad you might make a salary between 20 lakhs to 30 lakhs so that's the range after an MBA these days you will make somewhere around like 35 maybe right so around that Mark is what you would make if you are working abroad outside India then typically it would be a lot higher right of course you do purchasing power parity so from a money point of view there is I would say that the private sector jobs would pay decently well so any comments there right I mean how how does it play out in the government how do people working with government jobs feel about this I think there is a general tendency among group a officials because group officials usually tend to be more qualified also they put in a lot of effort to clear the upsc examination and you know how competitive the selection ratio is it's less than point zero one percent so what was your rank on upsc and how many people write like IES and how many people qualify each year so around it wasn't people right Indian economic service every year and uh around 15 people are selected every year so this is a very very difficult service to get into the other thing is that we have to complete a masters in economics before being able to write the exam itself right so you are already a postgraduate by the time you get selected one counter argument that is usually given is that government people make a lot of money under the table so you can figure out what the meaning of under the table is so how does that work does it work in all the services any Viewpoint of course you're not representing the Viewpoint of the employer but just your viewpoint on this how would you address the common perception here absolutely so this is something which I would not deny of course but this is completely my viewpoint and doesn't represent the government official figures uh there is certain kind of uh under the table dealing which happens but this is usually limited to jobs which deal with the public directly so if you're working with Central Ministries or if you are you have a desk job then these kind of things cannot happen if you are working at District level or state level and you're dealing with the public then the scope of getting into corruption or bribery becomes much more so the general perception that is there that bribery exists in all the government jobs is absolutely not true I will completely deny that it does happen but is limited to certain kind of sectors and certain kind of jobs only which are dealing with the public and also have you seen the corruption level going down in the government how it used to be and how it is now so many steps that the government has taken on this yeah there has been a drastic change corruption level has gone down and in fact public has become more empowered for example the RTI the right to Information Act it has been in existence since 2005 if I'm not mistaken however the real implementation of RTR has become begun only very recently so any individual can find an RTI if they are facing any kind of problem and the government is bound to reply to that idea within 30 days and this is a mandatory act okay so there are several steps that the government has taken to empower the citizens and Corruption has gone round bribery cases have gone down extortion cases have gone down so there are a lot of changes which are happening within the government as well absolutely we will also try to link some literature to talk about what are the steps the government has taken in terms of reducing the corruption and I think we are moving in the right direction of course uh change will come with time so that's where it in mind let's move to topic number two here which is about the work-life balance because in private sector you tend to make a lot more money but the work pressure is high all of us understand that if it is high in your organization do let us know anonymously of course but yeah over here you so the usual perception that the general audiences have about government job is right once you get a government job you're set for life you can pretty much retire you don't need to work anymore you can just come take like four hour lunch and go back home so how far is that true and what would you say to that so the phrase is for example we have worked on large uh social sector schemes like madrega right and these have been extremely challenging we have had to meet very strict deadlines we have worked for 10 to 12 hours every day over a span of several months to complete these tasks there is also a lot of political pressure and I think this is there especially in the top tier group a jobs if you're working directly with the politicians if you're working as an is or IPS officers you would face that kind of immense pressure from the politicians from the government in par from the social media from media from activists so there are several multiple stakeholders that you are handling so the pressure can be immense now people don't realize that and there is a general misconception that the work pressure is not much and you know we are just uh dealing we don't have to do anything but that is completely untrue because we have to manage several stakeholders as all right um I mean of course uh government is a very big machinery there would be some ineffective pieces or inefficient pieces around that and there will be pieces which are made to work really hard so very hard for us to give a general Viewpoint yeah so I'll leave that discussion up to you and from my site right I'll quickly speak about private sector we all know I'll not believe at this point if you are working in Investment Banking I have friends who literally sleep in office or used to sleep in office especially at the start of their career if you are working in Consulting so having 12 14 15 hours workday extremely common you have to travel a lot if you are in Consulting uh work pressure is high from the point that you have to generate constant Roi for example if the firm is paying you a salary of let's say hypothetically 50 lakhs then you are supposed to generate business for the firm which is worth one crore otherwise you become a cost center for the company this equation holds true in the entire corporate world according to my understanding there will be very few jobs now that provide some kind of Legacy you can see right I mean so much firing is going on in Google Apple Microsoft being big big companies right everyone is firing but there are only handful of corporates for example tatas that have not fired people so great job there right it's a it's a big thing from that perspective so I would feel that people feel this constant pressure in the private sector if you are not generating an Roi for your company then you will be out of the job and that is where I think the private world is moving so I don't think this pressure is going down okay so over to you then we'll wrap up this topic so do you think that the work pressure on government employees a is increasing and you see that this trend is going to change anytime soon um I think I have seen since I joined the service the work pressure has increased tremendously especially after the pandemic government has become very very strict and uh there is also another misconception that government people cannot be fired which I would not deny is completely untrue but the things are changing very rapidly and even the rules are changing government has started doing a 360 degree review they are assessing the quality of work you put in your performance and based on that they have also started firing people which may be news to some people right but they have actually started letting go of people within the government sector which was unheard of uh before in the older times um so this is how I'll interpret this topic I think work pressure is there both in public sector private sector it is increasing with time I completely agree to that Viewpoint second thing is the certainty of jobs so in the private sector the uncertainty of job has increased and this is something that we are seeing constantly aishi is telling us that even in the government the uncertainty is has started to creep in because people get fired so over to you so how easy is it to fire someone right I mean from a government job I because according to me as a common person I would feel that it is not easy to fire like an IIs or IPS or IRS Etc so what is your viewpoint on that compared to the private sector it is not easy there is no denying that fact however compared to the older times within the government sector things are changing and government has again started you know reviewing the performance of the people and they have actually brought in rules to change this structure of permanency within the government uh jobs so governments are also letting go of people now but again uh you're right in saying that compared to the private sector it is now very easy to let go of government officials okay so uh very quickly assessing the impact of the work because one of the key arguments that I hear or one of the key support arguments that are here for government job is Let's see we are doing something that impacts people directly we are bringing a lot of change then I go and speak with startup people that is the same same thing that you know what we are changing the world we are building something new I speak with management consulting people we are creating excellent Powerpoints and you know what not as one of the people who used to do that so uh to cut the long story short everyone feels that their work is important huh so how would you categorize the impact that government officials create what is the opportunity to create that impact how happy house are you with this entire equation when it comes to government jobs I think this is not an either or question and you know there is no debate about what the private sector is doing for the world or the government sector is doing for the world government sector is not focused on profits right it's as simple as that but they should be according to it but yeah let's continue okay that's your Viewpoint and we can discuss it later but government sector is there for the public right so whatever schemes are being launched by the government they are for the welfare of the people in general so the kind of impact that you can create in government jobs is also huge one scheme such as mandrega can actually impact 30 lakh laborers in one year and the figure might actually be higher than this so this means that the impact that you're creating in the lives of a people is actually much more than you know what the private sector might be doing of course it really depends on the kind of startup that is so it's not an either or question and there is no competition there I think all of uh so so let me let me reword that question right I mean because if we get into assessing the impact of the work or what potential impact we can create then of course like and we can question turn our job to with that but just generally like from your experience you get to speak with a lot of IAS you work with a lot of is IPS Etc how generally happy are people with their government jobs when it comes to group a type of government jobs what is it that they like what is it that they dislike what is it that they feel could be improved and this again I think would depend on the kind of individual you're talking about so it really depends on your nature if you're looking to work for salaries and you're concerned mostly about the financial aspect you might not be happy with government jobs and you want would want to shift into the private sector if however you are looking to work in policy sphere and you are looking to actually bring in change in the lives of the people then government jobs can be pretty good it also gives you a lot of exposure for example I'll talk about my own experience I have worked on different schemes and we have worked with multilateral organizations World Bank IMF I have led teams of seven to nine people at the age of 25.

So at such a young age I think in the private sector you might not get these kind of opportunities no I also work with ABB right while working with a consulting firm a world Bank Asian development Bank bunch of other top tier multilateral organizations okay so let me like you know um counter question you here because that when you are young you start preparing for a government job maybe like you are 23 24 you prepare for it uh you get into a government job by like 25 26 then let's say that you're 35 you realize that you know what I want more money because my family situation has changed but the government job is not paying you high salary then how do you process that and have you seen people struggle with this in in your own experience it really depends the salary has no limit okay so even if you you're getting 12 lakh or you're getting 25 lakh or you're getting two crore rupees per annum it really depends on the needs and the wants of the individual uh now this can be considered to be a diplomatic answer but it is actually true so uh it really depends on your needs and wants of course as I said salary cannot be compared in the government sector and the private sector and we are talking only about the top tier jobs within both these sectors and this is a genuine concern as your family grows as you get more responsibilities you have to take care of your family so it is not very easy to cater to all the needs and wants you have apart from this there are certain perks that the government does offer not only to the government official but to the entire family for example Health Facilities would be taken care of insurance is there for the entire family and uh okay so you are making the answer diplomatic see it is usually the objective of this discussion is fairly simple that we'll give you like Point Blank practical answers so usually the type of responses that you will see is that okay government job Credit Union private job you will create a list you'll write pros and cons but the thing is that when we feel that we are very suited for government job we get the government job also work really hard build up this dream that we are going to create massive impact so let me quickly touch upon this need for money and how you change as a person right for example when you are 25 years old you probably probably crack some great government job you have worked really hard you think you know government job for me I'll create a lot of impact I'm not a money-minded person whatever salary I'm making but by the time you're 35 you change as a person your family situation might be said that you might uh be in a need for more money you might want to take your family abroad etc etc so have you seen uh this mentality play out with people who are working in the government do they feel this way and what do they do about it typically so to be very thinking about this the first reason could be because there are certain things that are taken care of for the family also not only for the official but for his entire family so for example Health Facilities Insurance facilities these are all taken care of by the government itself the second point is there is still more certainty within the government jobs you are sure that you'll get your salary right you have that uh you know that you'll be working in this sector for very long time so you do not have that fear of letting go off immediately right in fact I would like to ask you this question how many government officials have you seen leaving their jobs before their retirement age so it might be also because of the fact that I'm true that not too many people do it but it might be because of the fact that there are it's not easy to give that cushion up right but that does not mean that they are like you know completely happy satisfied with the salary so let me ask you a counter question that and this is a complaint that I've heard from a lot of people that I know who are working in group a services that you know what I'm I'm like very intelligent I've cleared upscis secured like rank X and I had a friend who you know prepared for upsc failed he picked up he or she picked up a private job now they are making a salary of like 50 lakhs I'm making a salary of 15 20 lakhs it's not that you know I'm like mad after money but this is something that I feel little bit iffy about like as a human because I would always have that feeling in a way that you know I'm intelligent but I'm making less money so do you have uh that type of a Viewpoint as well and how do your colleagues I think it really depends on the age and the uh you know the position in life you are at for example when you're 20 5 you are looking to you're comparing your qualifications with your peers and you're comparing your salary with your peers so if as an entrant into the government service you would of course feel that I'm more qualified but I'm earning lesser salary than my peers who are working in the private sector but at the age of 35 you are looking at more of a stable family life and you're looking at work-life balance so in the private sector that work-life balance might not actually be there compared to the government sector so uh the what is a shortcoming at the age of 25 in the government sector becomes a positive thing at the age of 35 within the government sector so it really depends on the stage of life you're at yeah yeah so work life balance again you know is something that we can discuss so let's uh yeah so let's touch upon that so work life balance uh what does typically work-life balance look like when you're working in a group a service if you can give specific example for example I know for a fact that IPS IIs is are very demanding jobs so if you can take an example from there and compare it to like an IES Indian economic service what does the typical day look like how much hours you will give to your family versus at work and then I'll do a similar comparison if you're working in IB Investment Banking or management consulting so is and IPS are again uh much coveted jobs and rightly so because they are handling a much larger population for example as a fresh entrant you would be handling an entire District within a state as a collector right so is and IPS would be facing much more pressure and much more job responsibilities so how many hours do they typically work they would work for somewhere around 10 to 12 hours every day and do they have time for family initially not but after a certain stage they act actually set up their systems they have large teams that they're handling who they can dedicate their work to and you know they have to supervise that those teams and then the work-life balance comes into the picture and how does your work differ from is IPS in terms of work-life balance so is and IPS would be dealing with the public directly so to say because they would be working with state level Machinery in Indian economic service I would be working on large schemes and I would be working with is and IPS also but in the central government setup that means that I would not be dealing with the public as such so mine is more of analysis work rather than implementation of those schemes at the grassroot level but work-life balance would be better for Indian economic service compared to is and IPS so it's a more nuanced understanding so what I got from it is that's Eis IPS more prestigious more work life pressure so to say less time for family IES again a group a but more work-life balance right so that's what I got out of it something similar plays out when you're working in Consulting for example if you're working with dalberg then the amount of travel you need to do is less so it becomes less strenuous at least that angle but if you are working with McKenzie then you have to travel a lot more so it becomes more demanding so even those minute differences occur in the private sector job okay so let me very quickly touch upon the work life balance in private sector so if you are working in IB if you are working in management consulting private Equity VC then most of the people do not have work-life balance this is a common complaint that I have heard from people who even make partner level making crores of salary number one complaint is that you know what we do not have enough time for our family I am telling it to you point blank now it is your call whether you want to pursue this career track or not now you'll say Okay entrepreneurship so entrepreneurship is even worse right at the start that you have to spend a lot of time I wish you have seen me working right when I left my job I was dabbling in entrepreneurship I used to work for like 14 14 15 hours a day so it is really hectic over time you get work life balance right uh so it's very front loading that's what I would put I don't know whether this gives you clarity success in that right exactly right and it's very uncertain right so I mean uh very quickly recapping some of the key things that we have touched upon private sector is very thick it's uncertain uh but money is great and if you know how to invest that money watch all my other videos as well and watch issu's channel also so probably it will help you out a lot more even within the government there are different layers to group a Services okay so let's uh quickly touch upon how the nature of these jobs have changed and who is the right fit for a public sector job versus a private sector job and we'll touch upon individual themes here so according to you if you want to become an IES officer Indian economic Service Officer what are two three key things that you will look at right if you can start there and then do the same analysis for IPs is just very very uh quick overview of that so specifically for Indian economic service you need to have a masters in economics econometrics or similar fields and the post graduation is the first requirement secondly you should be good at cracking exams and this is something which not everybody is good at and that is why I'm putting it right across here uh upsc conducts the examination and you need to be good in your writing skills so that is something that you need to focus on third is you should be good at interviewing skills you should be concise and precise in whatever answers you give you should have a holistic understanding of the economy and you should have some kind of interest in what the world is heading towards so yeah holistic knowledge good at writing skills good at interview and of course you need to have a masters okay and what about IPS if someone wants to become an IPS mostly I hear from kids anyone who join like Police Service but what is it that you will tell them easier to become an IPS and this is what you should enjoy therefore look at this one you should be ready to do a lot of leg work in the field that is something required for is and IPS the second thing is you do not require any kind of specialization in any degree that is not a requirement the second thing is you should be very very determined and not be comparing yourself to your peers who might be earning more because you know the kind of legwork you will be putting into the field would be much more and you might get frustrated that I'm not earning that much so don't compare yourself you should be determined about what you are doing and why you're getting into that field third is perseverance because it is a high pressure job and because you would face immense pressure from the government from politicians from public as well so you should be strong-headed and persevere in your job so these are very difficult skills to sort of comprehend for 90.

Soft skills yes so my viewpoint is like you know this is something that so which this is a highly controversial topic but we will still touch upon it I personally see very little point in taking like two three breaks or preparing for two three years in upsc I feel that if you are in your 20s spending three years right preparing just for an exam in front of your books of course you will learn but three years of your life in your Prime do you agree with that logic because most of the people clearing up essay go through that so what's your viewpoint on that personally I would not so personally I would not have spent three to four years preparing for only one exam a lot of people do and they might have their own motives so that what happens is that once you spend three four years you kind of become ineligible for other sectors because you do not have any work experience you do not develop those leadership skills or soft skills and you can't portray it on paper so companies do not know what exactly have you been doing for those three to four years you might have a lot of knowledge but how will you show it across you didn't do any projects you didn't do any you didn't get any work experience right it is I would not recommend spending three to four years however if you are very keen on you know creating that impact and you have that strong build motivation to work for the nation then of course it's your own personal choice so it's a little bit ironic that in order to get into a job where your risk is low and life is more certain you have to go through this extreme period of uncertainty so you don't know we are competing like for a really tough exam so yeah so just putting that out I don't know how to process that it's really difficult for me also to process it I think it really depends on the individual and what he or she wants to do with it any tips for people like I mean who fail upsc what is the message that you will give them especially like I mean they try out upsc for one year we are not able to make it and they are sitting on the casket you know what should I take like another drop here prepare for it or should I just you know is there Plan B that I should pursue so what is it that you will say I think you should definitely have plan abs and see yeah okay so maybe if you want to spend one year entirely dedicated towards preparing for upsc you can do that there is no uh you know I would I would totally recommend that that because it is a difficult exam and you need to prepare very well there is no denying that fact however don't spend more than one year try to get some internships or at least try to do some part-time job so that in case you do not clear these examinations you have something to fall back upon so that could be your plan B so you'll get some new skills so here's my tip for you right so please pick up money making skills for example simple things like video editing graphic designing all these are money making skills you might not look at these skills sometimes with like you know adulation but honestly right if you're a good video editor if you're a good graphic designer if you're a good visual Storyteller if you're a good virtual assistant you can make a lot of money in this space so please don't discount that at least have the skill set or the money skills here to go after this career path right so that will at least create a hedge your downside risk this is very very important very important message from our side and be aware of what all opportunities are there outside the upsc sphere those will so now touching upon the private sector jobs what to whom private sector jobs or gold standard private sector jobs would be suited at I would typically recommend that you get really good brands on your resume Brands matter a lot these days you'll hear a lot of conversations from VC Founders Etc but no when you have good business schools top tier Business Schools on your CV good undergrads on your CV it gives a very clear indication because whenever you are applying for Google Microsoft Amazon McKenzie BCG they get like this stack of resumes to scan right I mean what is it that the recruiter will look at they will look at first and foremost here undergrad post grad degree and if they like you there itself it creates a lot of impact that's Party part B if you are in college please try to get good grades people just simply say that you know what college is that all nonsense right I mean I'm not saying that obsess over it just stop your life just get marks no nothing like that but have the vision that you know I mean if you are doing something then do it properly uh get good marks it's an indicator to the recruiter that you are serious about things you tell me a very simple thing right I mean if you get a choice to hire someone from Stanford for your startup vis-a-vis hire someone from like say our tier three Institute would you go and give the lecture that you know what college degree does not matter it of course does your marks does every single thing in life does so if you're looking for gold standard jobs the simple narrative is that get good brands on your CV there is nothing wrong with college education I will highly recommend it from that perspective and be a curious learner right create the skill set where you can switch for example a lot of people these days they are working in Consulting they want to become entrepreneurs I did that right so what do you need to do you need to pick up a new skill I picked up multiple new skills for example as consultant I did not used to make YouTube videos I learned how to do that right I mean it became like one of the channels through which I could connect with you so you need to constantly learn pick up new skills you should be open to learning you should be open to taking risks so I think these three characteristics number one good brands right good CV number two open into learning new skills and then finally going and taking risks and experimenting this will make you a perfect fit for gold standard job and subsequently making more money in life so now quickly let us go to the audiences and there are very interesting set of questions that we have received so let us see if we have gone through it otherwise we'll add more commentary and flavor to it so the first question comes from Mr sridhar Rao he has worked 11 years in government in 25 years in private sector he has suggested that we should cover differences in work culture soldering of responsibility work pressure work stress politics pay pension potential for growth recognition learning and skill development have you missed any of these attributes or do you want to touch upon I think that we can talk about is the exit opportunities which are there so there are multiple exit opportunities that you get after working in the government sector for example a lot of my seniors they went to Harvard to pursue their MBA and MPP after working with the government for a certain period of time and in fact one of my seniors he actually started working with World Bank after seven to eight years of working with the government and has actually joined World Bank permanently and exited from the government so you actually get to work with a lot of these reputed organizations across the world once you've worked with the government right so in point of recognition so I would feel that uh you know the bureaucrats work might not get recognized or at least like in majority of the cases it might not so does that impact your morale in any way it can actually it can it really depends on the kind of bosses you have so if you have a good boss who actually sees and recognizes the work you're putting in then he or she will give you a certain kind of commendation or introduce you to different uh you know High personalities a lot of bureaucrats do not and it can affect the morale of uh bureaucrats to a very large attitude in society so this I hope it meant that you know for example in the um a few years back or few decades back is IPS other group a jobs were revered literally right so we were like celebrities so to say so do you see that celebrity status going down so to say or is it like uh what change is happening there uh I think uh that uh thing has come down that culture has come down so those uh the red Beacon lights that used to be put on IPS offices even that is not there anymore in most of the uh IPS jobs except for maybe like the top few so that culture has gone down there's a lot of education and literacy that is spread among the public also so that reverence for the government officials is coming down and I think it is a very very positive things for the society in general so interesting question by Akash so he says that with the uh recent Decisions by the Modi government uh the the boundaries between the public and private jobs are getting crushed so to say so do you agree with that can people easily switch from private to public now what are their options yes there are a lot of opportunities that are there for those who are working in the private sector to come and work for the government uh especially this government has been in introducing a lot of lateral entry jobs as young professionals that is at right at the start as freshers you can work with the government on certain projects for two to three years then you can also work with the government as consultants for a longer duration project like five to six years so these are lateral entry jobs these are Project Specific and can actually give you exposure to what exactly the government does so one interesting question that I work for PSU and general public has an old age impression of my work timing but we rarely work less than 12 hours a day and there is nil work-life balance okay so this is more of a comment rather than a question uh but just curious right I mean why is it like 12 hours because government would mandate that you can only work for X number of hours right so why is it going to 12 hours that is not a mandate it's the official timings which are usually not followed through so the official timings may be 9 to 5 30 or 6 in certain offices but the workload that is there on the government officials can exceed much beyond that okay someone has asked tips on how to start black money ah no tips then I don't have anything so you stack it like this like in one get D2 foreign if you were to go back in time if you are 20 years old would you still pursue the path that you're currently pursued I'll answer the same question then okay probably yes and uh akshata already knows that my entire family has been working in the private sector or in defense that is it no bureaucrat whatsoever but the kind of life I saw for my father who used to work several hours we used to go on projects and used to be away for months away from the family uh it kind of gave me a perception that I would not want this kind of life for myself and that is why I tried to choose a track which had much more like work life balance and uh the current job Indian economy service does offer me that to a very large extent even if I have to spend long duration at work on certain days I do not have to stay away from the family for very long and that works well for I think the entire family for Zayn as well okay all right so same question to me that would I want to do whatever I am doing now so Consulting yes I would have I would again do the same why because you get very good Training so you learn a lot about the corporate world you learn about different different things second entrepreneurship what I do absolutely I enjoy doing entrepreneurship I enjoy working hard youtubing of course right I mean youtubing is fun it's entertaining uh we did a seminar in Bangalore it was very well received a lot of people showed up showered their love and interestingly there was a survey that was done in UK and kids were asked that hey which career path you would want to pursue almost 70 of the kids said that they want to become YouTubers so this is like a new trend that is coming up so okay so final question what would you want Zine to become in the future and I'll answer the same then um now the Diplomatic answer here would be I would want him to pursue whatever he wants to but the real answer would be that you know I always wanted to become a doctor if not for a bureaucrat I would have been a doctor probably and then I would like him to actually explore that career path yeah but at the same time as he grows up I would like him to develop certain skills as you rightly said money making skills because that is extremely important and you should start them young okay so my answer here would be that um if it were left to me as a profession right and if I'm giving a you know not a diplomatic answer I would say musician so yeah so that's that's what I would want him to become but the slightly more um logical answer would be that I would want him to do something which he can be in point top point one percent in so beat anything a beat musician beat Sports build skills and be at the top right so point one percent so that is what my push towards him would be that he can pick any career path as long as he gets to the top so that would be the goal so yeah and whenever Zane watches this video he'll you know pick a few pointers here and there and probably learn something out of it all right thank you so much for joining us I hope you enjoyed this uh conversation do let us know if you have any comments uh we will love to give our inputs on it and hopefully it will help you out in your career
