One year ago this week, I joined CDC as the nineteenth director. Since taking this task, my depth respect for this agency has grown. We have faced countless challengesthis past year and will continue to face more in the next.Before we move ahead, I want to recognize some of relevant agencies remarkable achievements. CDC staff have completed more than 440 COVID-1 9 outbreak deployments to nursing homes, schools, foodprocessing equipment, and prisons. Squads of outbreak specialistsworked to on 63 foodborne eruptions, two cases of imported monkeypox, and an investigation of the national deployment of a polluted chamber spraywith a potentially lethal bacteria. We propelled Public Health AmeriCorps, a brand-new pathway program to recruit, drill, and develop the next generationof public health supervisors. We spoke out to testify racisma serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of Americansand the health of our entire society. We started the tough work to modernizehow we collect data to make accurate, translucent, and timely dataavailable to inform public health action. All of this accounts for really a smallfraction of our work over the past year. In 2022, we will remain committedto working across public health to use science and transparency to improve healthfor the American beings and the world countries.
